Schliersee, a beautiful Bavarian city, is built around a large alpine lake of the same name, and is nestled in the pristine mountain scenery of the Bavarian Alps. These ancient and magnificent mountains are certain to take your breath away, whether they are covered in snow or bathed in the many colours of the Alpine summer. Completing this fairy tale landscape, Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein castle is but a short day trip away, as is Austria’s famous Salzburg.
Another event drawing visitors from near and far is St. Leonhard’s Day, celebrated on the first Sunday after All Saints’ Day in November. Approximately 80 festively decorated carriages drawn by 4 horses, and filled with people in historical costumes, arrive to take part in the Pilgrimage day’s celebration, which includes a mass, held in the open.
In any season, Schliersee in the district of Miesbach, is a popular international holiday destination for good reason. A natural haven away from the daily grind, this is a perfect spot from which to enjoy some of the world’s most beautiful scenery and nature. But this is far from all that is on offer to visitors here. Extensive sports and leisure facilities, offered in both summer and winter, are also available, and attract many to this charming region in the heart of the Bavarian Alps.
